Personal experience is one of the most powerful tools someone has when relating, and supporting, others with a mental health challenge. Our team have all had the effect of mental health impact their lives in some way; as will 50% of Australian's during their life.
“Too often we underestimate the power of a touch, a smile, a kind word, a listening ear, an honest compliment, or the smallest act of caring, all of which have the potential to turn a life around.” ― Leo Buscaglia
Our difference is simple - we're young people helping other young people, with a true understanding of how to help.
"You came and spoke with us today. I'm the one with the low self esteem. I really appreciate the effort you took to come and talk to us today. Your story/advice really really inspired me. After hearing what you had to say I feel like I can now build up self self esteem/self confidence and not take in the negativity that people have to say about me/my dreams and to just do what think is best and always give it a shot. I think you couldn't have done anything better. the words you have spoken are the most inspiring words I've heard. I can guarantee I'll inbox you sometime soon to ask for advice as long as that's alright.. thank you heaps. You should be really proud of yourself and I wish you all the best in your future and business!!"
"Thank you to the moon and back! I'm sure many others have told you how wonderful you were today and how inspirational you were. But I would personally like to thank you. Because of your speech and such amazing outlook on life, you have truly given me a hand to get up. Things aren't easy for me either, with self image, anxiety the list foes on and on. You have honestly shown me why having dreams and aspirations, is important. You mentioned that you had it tough to, and that people would let you down and put you down, and that you got up from that, stronger than ever, I plan to follow in your footsteps You are a wonderful women, and you are changing lives, believes me. Thank you so much! I love the person you are!"
"Thanks so much for visiting Warwick yesterday! Your story, and everything you have accomplished, it's simply awesome. As I said yesterday, I would love to help out with the Foundation and the Program, or both. I can't offer much, but if something needs to be done, and I can help out, consider it done."
"Hi Nicole: I Just wanted to congratulate you on how well last night went. I think The Rogue and Rouge Foundation is without a doubt, incredible. Standing there last night was the first time I’ve felt that someone else had the same passion and conviction, that I feel, in changing people’s opinions of eating disorders. It still astounds me that there is this restriction of equitable and sufficient care necessary to treat the serious consequences of an eating disorder, due to beliefs of self-infliction or the categorisation of an eating disorder as a behavioural issue. Especially when some of the most common diseases in society like hypertension, cardiovascular disease, type II diabetes, and lung cancer, all have causal explanations pertaining to perceived lifestyle choices. It really is unfair, and I only wish that something like this existed when I was going through anorexia. I genuinely believe that The Rogue and Rouge Foundation is going to change the lives of so many, and I would love to be involved in whatever way I can. I left last night with a smile because I know you will make difference, a difference which will enable people to hold a piece of their future, achieve their dreams, and lead happy, confident and fulfilling lives. You should be immensely proud of yourself."
